NATALIA CUEVAS
This piece refers to the piñata as an act of brutality and wrath. I want to address the current political climate by concentrating specifically on attitudes towards Mexico and Mexican immigrants within the United States. I wish to reference the history of the piñata, dating back to the Aztecs who used piñatas primarily during celebrations and sacrifices to the gods. Based on my obstruction, I decided to create a life size piñata in the form of a human to mimic the effect of being “inside” the costume. Viewers will be asked to beat the piñata with police batons and will receive authentic Mexican candy as incentives.
