This project serves as a continuation of the previous installation that focuses on the aftermath of the destruction. I wish to address the concept of religion specifically by offering a death ritual – an alter that honors the decapitated piñata. I wish to reference other Mexican celebrations, particularly Day of the Dead, in order to emphasize the religious context. The alter/shrine will also serve as a sort of confession booth that forces the viewer to confess and write their sins before entering the space. These allusions to Catholicism and religious practices are meant to strengthen the connection between the piñata being a symbol of sin and temptation.
